Waste Reduction - The Way to Go

Welcome to Recycling Kapiti – the place where you can find out almost everything you need to know to reduce daily waste where you live and work.

Recycling is one of the most important contributions we can make to a clean, strong and sustainable Kapiti Coast.

Before we set up our recycling scheme we were sending 43,000 tonnes of waste to the Otaihanga landfill every year – that’s a tonne of rubbish for every man, woman and child in the District!

Now, with our recycling scheme, and $2.4 million waste recovery centre, the Council estimates we can reduce our waste by 50 per cent by 2015 by recycling. That’s about 20,000 tonnes less annually.

By recycling we’re preserving Kapiti for generations to come, we’re working together to do something really good for our district, we’re saving money, and we’re using our resources more wisely.

Kerbside recycling is as common, and as reliable, as your weekly rubbish collection. Let’s save the earth’s precious resources and see what we can do to reduce, reuse and recycle.
